Wool yarn selection is a project decision. The intended garment, handle, stitch and price range should guide the discussion with a knitwear manufacturer. A supplier name or a reference photograph alone does not confirm the composition, performance or certification of the garment you will receive.
Define the yarn specification
Share the composition you want to develop, along with your preferred texture, weight, stitch and color. If you need a particular yarn brand or documented material standard, include that requirement in the brief so availability and supporting information can be checked.
Compare physical swatches
Review swatches in the proposed knit structure. Consider hand feel, surface appearance, stretch and drape in relation to the garment. Keep the approved material and color references with your sample comments so later decisions remain traceable.
Agree sample checks
Confirm the garment measurements and the intended care procedure. Discuss which checks are appropriate for the project, such as dimensional stability, pilling or colorfastness. The test scope and acceptance criteria should be agreed before production rather than assumed from the fiber name.
Request documentation for specific claims
If a certification, audit or branded fiber claim is needed, ask for current documentation relevant to the material and order. A historical certificate or supplier brochure does not automatically cover every yarn, garment or delivery.
Plan availability and repeat orders
Confirm color availability, material lead time and how repeat orders will be handled. Record the approved specification and discuss how any yarn substitution would be reviewed. Ask for a quotation based on the actual garment and quantity per color.
